Being Close to God

Wow, Dave!  What a great point!

I guess I'm too fixated on what I do in my relationship with the Lord.  The life I live on this earth is not about earning God's favor--I have already received it in Christ.  Thus, what is amazing is what he does in us.  That is the miracle.

I believe we learn from the Bible that we are indeed new creations, "created in Christ Jesus for good works (Eph 2:10)."  So we get to do good because that is how we've been created in Jesus.  If only I could live in this delightful truth more than I do.

What can I tell you?  Classes started just a couple weeks ago.  I am taking Theology I and Intermediate Hebrew I.  I think I will really enjoy my theology class--my professor is very smart, very funny, but also very pastoral in his approach.

I am trying to spend more time meditating upon God's truths and living outward from them.  I believe that we can go through the motions of living like Christians and yet be very far from pleasing God.  I want to live for Him out of gratitude for Christ and not out of a dry sense of obligation.

Dog days

Hello friends!  Is anyone coming here anymore?  I shouldn't think so, what with my twice-a-year postings.

Anywho, things are busy but good, and I am seeing God's providential hand every day.  He is helping me to learn how to trust Him with each day.  And I am a slow learner.

School will resume in mid-August, and I am excited for it.  I miss studying biblical languages and theology.  I often forget how great a privilege I have to be here at a seminary.  May God be glorified by our lives!

Well, that's all for now!

Howdy!!!

Well, today was my first day of classes for this new fall semester.  I had Intermediate Greek this morning and Christian Ethics tonight.  I think this semester will be great, but it will also be busy.  Pray for me!!

I am really learning how hard it is to stay on task and be instantly available for the people God brings across my path.  Yet, I see in Jesus that divine ability to accomplish His heavenly mission and not see people as interruptions.  Showing diligence in daily tasks and giving people our full attention requires much grace, doesn't it?

Blessings.
